So I'm home for my one week Spring Break, and you know what that means??? HORRIBLE CHEST COLD!! Yay! I'm currently using my inhalers like my third lung. Geross. Aside from me dying of death, I'm playing my Wii! My recent Animal Crossing acquisition is kinda awesome, even if it has sub-gamecube level graphics. Cute, funny animals! YAY! And of course I got Super Smash Bros. Brawl today, and it is that awesome. Kirby has some majorly awesome moves, but I've got a place in my heart for Zelda. You know I took down Peach in a mono a mono battle. Bitch went down.
Also. TV. In 1080p. Yes.
LOST
First I should mention all the episodes this season prior to Juliet's have been great. My apologies to future me looking up references for not chronicling those great ones. Sorry, I was busy. I'll just briefly talk about time travel for a sec.
Lost 4.05
I wonder how you not-me people are handling this blatant Sci Fi-ness Lost is employing. I mean, Time Travel is as Sci Fi as Sci Fi gets! I'm even a little surprised it's working out! Weird. Anyway, Desmond had some trippy-ish side effects and bounced like a ping pong ball from past to present. Must not be fun. So we clearly saw that the Island is on a different time stream than the boat... Will that be addressed, like as to how that is? Or will it be another Lost thing that we'll never really learn, like why the Numbers were so damn unlucky, or why there's a fucking smoke monster. By the by, I hope that monster thing gets addressed, we've had two monster related queries this season. Really.
And poor Daniel. Should have worn a lead helmet. Love how Desmond was just like "What about your brain?" and Daniel totally didn't hear it. Here's one of those wibly-wobly timey-wimey questions: Does present Desmond remember meeting with Daniel? Obviously that timeline played out somewhat, because he did desert the Scottish Army and that would end you up in prison... But it doesn't appear that present Desmond remembers jumping 8 years into the future... But then again, Daniel's got the notes from their encounter, you know the whole "Desmond is my CONSTANT" thing... It could be Desmond doesn't remember any of it due to time healing itself. I totally went all Doctor Who on you.
Big questions, I expect unfulfilling answers disguised as major revelations. God Bless Lost!
Lost 4.05
NOTE: I wrote this on my computer right after the episode aired. Expect babbling.
LOST FTW?
I always got a slight Ben/Juliet vibe, but no the uber stalkery kind. We didn't see any of this when Juliet was a-flirting with captive!Jack. Ben wasn't scheming to passively assassinate Jack after his surgery...
And Michael is so on the boat. Suchhhh a letdown. I was hoping for a major psychout like "Harold Perranau is showing up, but NOT ON THE BOAT!!" Of course, the Lost producers have openly teased about the name in the opening credits, but the lack of the actor. But really, who else could Ben have named that would have shocked John...
Freighter Peeps: Slightly Evil or Really Evil? You decide. Charlotte and Daniel weren't trying to gas the island ("Yay!"), but makes sense that Widmore would want to exploit the resources. He's appeared in two episodes in a row, and we assume(know) he had something to do with Desmond's "boat crash". Could he have tried to use Desmond as a tracking device, maybe with something on the boat? And then Naomi could have been trying to find him, and (kill him?) on Widmore's orders. But Charlotte and Daniel are so awesome! I sense they might change sides, a la my favorite Other: Juliet.
Side note: Loved the return of the whispering Others. Now that we know they're humanish, might the whispering be just an elaborate speaker system playing out a "creepy whispering" track?
BRAIN BURST:
Charlotte and Daniel were together, romantically. That's why she's helping with his memory and generally caring about him. She might have been picked to help his memory come back so he could study the island's properties...
I guess I have little to say with shows off the air. I suppose that's a pretty sad statement about my life, isn't it? Well, I saw Juno again tonight. I saw it about a month ago. The thing is, I didn't love it the first time, and that bothered me. There were tons and tons of reasons to love the movie: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, brilliant dialog, sweet story, funny, smart, best soundtrack ever... But I didn't feel amazed. I am quite the TV snob when it comes to quality, so when I don't love a movie everyone else loves, I think. Sometimes this leads to a strong affirmation of my initial reactions (See the TV show Chuck), but sometimes it leads to that 'wow' emotion I was looking for on take 1.
The most aggravating thing about not immediately loving Juno was the delayed love. I thought about the jokes and the scenes and the characters... then it started to click. Well, I went to see it again tonight. Mucho love. I even have spoiler parts I must address.
Juno Spoilers
Juno is way immature
I don't remember being that childish when I was 16. Her decision to keep the baby and to give it to adoptive parts was very wise, but other things... not so much. The biggest was her distance from this life inside of her. As she noted in the beginning, this would be 30-something weeks and then they'll move on. If it were me, I couldn't do that... too mature to get over brining life and not thinking about it all the time. But Juno could do that, although when she cried at the end, that could be questionable, but I think it was more emotional exhaustion than longing for her lost child.
Part of why I think Juno is immature is she never turns off. Juno around her friends is Juno around her parents and Juno around adults. What you see is what you get. But part of growing up is knowing to adjust to the situations (joking about getting liquor around prospective adoptive parents is one point). I guess that's part of why I loved Juno.
Mark did not have the hots of Juno
A bunch of people keep asking why Mark (Vanessa's husband) was so close to Juno. Well, didn't Juno's stepmom explain that? Juno doesn't understand marriage boundaries, and Mark does. But he really liked spending time with Juno, but knew Vanessa wouldn't have approved. I loved that Jason Reitman did during the slow dancing scene. I believe that Juno and Mark saw nothing sexual or implicative while slow dancing, but Reitman made sure to show us, the audience, what the two characters don't really understand. Juno showed Mark what he was missing because of Vanessa, and Mark showed us he wasn't grown up. The dancing was just two friends bonding, but when Juno flipped after finding out the dream couple was splitting, it snapped Mark back into the reality that this kid was 16! Mark saw Juno as his kindred spirit, regardless of age. When she wanted a perfect couple and called Mark old, he realized Juno sees him the way any kid could see him. Not as an equal friend, but an old (age) friend. I appreciated that scene much more the second time around.
I'm working on a big huge ginormous TV post, basically with 2 weeks worth of crap. I've been busy, and I'm going to have a busy weekend, but I promise to write.
So the big WGA strike is upon us. I fully support the writers, but I'm starting to feel the pain. Every day this goes on I know it's crushing the plans for this season. 24's been postponed, Lost is going ahead in Feb with 8 episodes, leaving us with a major cliffhanger that will probably piss us off, most comedies are done, The Office supposedly just read through the funniest episode yet, but filming's been shut down... I'm following this like crazy, hoping for updates, but things looks pretty grim. No talks are scheduled. Yikes. People expect this to go into 2008. Methinks I need a social life.
I think I might donate to the WGA or make a shirt or something. Nothing's really affected here at school, but I want to show and voice my support. Maybe I'll phone up some networks, I'm really passionate about this. Check out United Hollywood for videos and updates. I wish I could join a picket line, but alas, I'm in upstate NY, the land of nothing.
Not only do I have to do my lab report for tomorrow, but I don't even get the weekend to myself. I have a paper and a test next week. So yay studying! Maybe I'll take a break from all that and rewatch my tv shows, I wasn't able to fully pay attention to them. But I did watch. Promise.
Weather's finally getting cold. Boo. Yeah, it kinda sucks, but I get to wear sweaters, which is always awesome.
Dollhouse! Yay! Cheers me up just thinking about it.
Less happy is Stephen Colbert was rejected from the South Carolina primary ballot. Poo. When he first brought it up, I thought he was joking, but he actually went for it. He had a legal team and did research... Very, very impressive. The fact that he got so much attention from a fake run made me really happy. Now, at 1:05am Eastern Time, it's the top story on Google News.
OK back to work :-/
Congrats Jericho fans! I don't know if any of you watch the show, I don't, but it was canceled. Then fans flipped a shit and began plotting ways to send a message. That message: Nuts. I can't imagine the look on some poor CBS mail room guy who had to sort through thousands of boxes of nuts. But it worked! Jericho actually got brought back from the dead. That's pretty damn impressive. I actually might need to start watching it, just out of support.
What's the best way to get on your good side?

I watch waaay too much TV, but it's really rewarding. I may or may not continue to watch Heroes. I saw the pilot over the summer and loved it, but I watched it on NBC and I just didn't feel it. I'm looking over my list and many of my shows are in their third seasons. It's hard to believe so much quality programming started around the same time.
